Who Am I?
My name is Alejandro Muriel Hermosilla. I am a Clinical Psychologist and psychotherapist based in Madrid, where I have my private practice.
I also work as a Clinical Psychologist at Gregorio Marañón Hospital and as an Associate Professor at URJC University.
I completed my residency in Clinical Psychology at Gregorio Marañón Hospital, one of Spain’s leading hospitals for Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology, where I have been working for over a decade.
My international academic and clinical experience includes Trinity College Dublin and the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University.
I work with people from different countries and cultural backgrounds, providing therapy in English for international residents and English-speaking patients in Madrid.
Why can you trust me?
I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of clinical experience, currently working at Gregorio Marañón Hospital alongside my private practice.
My clinical experience includes working with both adults and children, treating a wide range of psychological difficulties, and collaborating with psychiatrists, psychologists and other healthcare professionals as part of multidisciplinary teams.
I am also an Associate Professor at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, combining clinical practice with teaching, tutoring and academic activity.
My international academic and clinical experience includes Trinity College Dublin and working as an intern at the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University, where I participated in clinical and academic activities, including seminars and lectures.
I believe that good psychological care requires both solid clinical experience and an individual understanding of each person. My aim is to provide thoughtful, professional care while adapting my approach to the particular circumstances and needs of each patient.
Below you can see what my patients say about my work…
«After having seen two other psychologists because of my anxiety attacks, I can say that I am finally feeling better. I also understand now what had really happened to me.
Thank you for being so attentive and genuinely compassionate.»
Why do I provide therapy in English?
Having lived, studied and worked in different countries, I understand some of the particular challenges that can come with living abroad.
I studied Clinical Psychology at Trinity College Dublin and, during my residency in Clinical Psychology, I worked at the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University. These experiences allowed me to learn and work in highly international environments.
Throughout my career, I have worked with people from different cultural backgrounds and have developed a particular interest in working with international patients and expatriates who prefer to express themselves in English.
I currently work with patients from different countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and South Africa, as well as many other international backgrounds.
What can you expect from therapy?
Be it couples therapy or trauma therapy, whenever you begin therapy in Madrid with our team of psychologists and psychiatrists, you can expect a safe and confidential space where your inner world can be explored with care and depth.
From the first session, we focus on understanding not only your current difficulties but also the emotional patterns and experiences that may lie behind them.
Through this process of exploration and reflection, therapy becomes a space to make sense of your feelings, relationships, and the ways you experience yourself.
Our team combines clinical expertise with international experience, offering therapy in English for people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
This allows you to express yourself freely and to explore personal experiences in the language that feels most natural to you.
Therapy helps you both manage your symptoms and understand what lies beneath them. Together, we work on developing practical tools to cope with daily challenges while also exploring the emotional roots that give those symptoms meaning.
This combination allows for real and lasting change. We are committed to providing a thoughtful, respectful environment where you can develop insight, resilience, and a more authentic connection to yourself and others.
Benefits of therapy
Therapy offers a space to understand yourself more deeply and to bring certain patterns into awareness.
Emotional difficulties often come from patterns and experiences that began long ago and continue to influence how we feel and relate to others today.
By exploring these patterns in a safe and supportive setting, you can begin to see the links between past and present, gaining insight that leads to greater self-acceptance, emotional freedom, and more authentic relationships.
Therapy is not only about reducing symptoms—it’s about growing into a fuller, more connected version of yourself.
For many people living abroad, being able to receive therapy in English is essential to express emotions and experiences with nuance and depth.
I offer therapy in English in Madrid, providing a space where you can speak freely and explore your inner world without the barrier of language.
This helps create a genuine therapeutic connection and makes the process of self-discovery more natural and meaningful.

Why offering therapy for expats?
I have lived in many other countries such as England, Germany, United States or even Brazil, which gave me a good understanding of what living abroad means. Sometimes not being able to fully express yourself in your own language can be a challenge, especially when it comes to health issues.
In psychotherapy, having a person with whom you can communicate without language barriers and who can understand your culture is tremendously important.
